#004 The world of agriculture ~The past and present of farms~ Introduction animation

(The animation at the end is reposted. If you haven't seen it yet, please watch it with your children.)

Good evening everyone. Today, I would like to tell everyone who always delivers vegetables how our farm started and how it came to be today.

Nguyen Quoc Thang (hereinafter referred to as Mr. Thang) and I met in 2006 and have continued to develop self-sufficient agriculture that does not rely on pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. We conducted research together while I was doing research on biopesticides at university.

Farming in Vietnam and Japan are very similar. One is that it is small-scale, and the other is that it relies on imported agricultural inputs. Safety is another discussion, but Japan ranks among the top in the world in terms of the amount of pesticides sprayed, and Vietnam's Da Lat also sprays as much. We also rely heavily on imports for livestock feed.

In March 2011, the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred. I witnessed the disaster and the damage it caused to agriculture. Mr. Tan and I discussed supporting Japan's agriculture from Vietnam, and we came up with the idea of establishing a self-sufficient agricultural demonstration project in Vietnam first.

The experience gained in biological control and organic fertilizer development up until 2011 was the driving force behind establishing Thien Sinh Farm.

June 2011: It was 10 years ago that we began searching for and clearing uncontaminated farmland.

The first thing we needed was electricity. As there were no public power lines in the area, it was decided that the shortest distance (1.4km) would be installed by consulting with the villagers and paying for it with the villagers who wanted electricity. We also erected a lot of telephone poles.

Water: Water is needed to grow crops. There were no ponds or rivers, so we dug a well. Before there was electricity, we used the truck engine to generate electricity to run the well pump.

This is a newly completed reservoir. It passes through a filter and is delivered to the vegetables in the field.

House: We also built a green house necessary to protect the crops from the rain. Nowadays, we can make everything by hand from the materials and build houses of our own designs.

Cow: It was difficult to buy expensive cows, so at first I borrowed a cow from an acquaintance and collected cow dung.

Now they are all farm cows.

Next, let's talk about vegetables. Nowadays, it is possible to grow delicious vegetables, but when the land was still poor, the crops could not grow well and were eaten by insects, preventing them from growing.

However, after six years of patiently improving the soil, I finally had soil that allowed my tomatoes to thrive and my cabbages to grow without being defeated by insects.
